A web app that helps Indian VTI learners explore and understand the complex world of work by organising it into seven sectors. It empowers learners to take control of their career development and make informed decisions about their future.

Lakhs of work-ready youth in India lack the means to make meaningful career decisions because they do not have the tools to understand the expansive world of work and compare the various career choices within it.
Fold Labs, in partnership with Quest Alliance (QA), developed the World of Work web app to bridge this gap. The app guides learners through sector based career exploration and provides the details necessary to aid career decision-making.
WoW is part of QA’s broader Personalised Learning Engine Project (PLE), which aims to imagine personalised, career-oriented learning experiences for young Indian learners. The app was piloted in nine VTIs across India and provided strategic direction for designing QA's revamped Learning App.
CHALLENGES & APPROACH
CHALLENGE ONE
Making the vast world of work accessible to learners who found it overwhelming and abstract.
WoW organised careers into seven main sectors, with simplified content for exploration.
CHALLENGE TWO
Learners often believed that government jobs were the only secure option.
WoW highlighted non-government sectors and future trends, broadening learners’ perspectives on career opportunities beyond highly competitive government roles.
CHALLENGE THREE
Encouraging learners to analyse and make informed career decisions.
The app introduced the Sector Suitability Test, a personalised tool that helped learners assess which sector suited them.

FEATURE 1
Sector Based Organisation
Careers are divided into seven sectors, each with concise overviews covering key topics like job options, challenges, future scope, and qualifications.
FEATURE 2
Sector Sutability Test
A customizable test which helps students assess the suitability of each sector based on considerations like self, family and sector realities. This helps them compare sectors and find the ones that suit them the best.
FEATURE 3
Details to Enable Decision Making
Details like job options, challenges, opportunities, salary, location, skills needed, future prospects were provided for each sector along with on-ground videos, expert bytes, articles and other resources to encourage deep exploration.
PILOT DISCOVERIES
DISCOVERY #1
Job-led Exploration
Although the app was designed for sector-based exploration, most learners preferred searching for specific jobs rather than starting with sectors. This finding influenced the redesign of the new PLE app.
DISCOVERY #2
Sectional Exploration
Learners mainly explored benefits, challenges, skills, and qualifications sections for each sector without delving into other sections. This revealed the details that were most relevant for our learners.
IMPACT ONE
Improved Understanding
Learners’ understanding of career options increased by 80%, and they retained key information about the sectors they were most interested in.

Enhanced Communication
WoW equipped learners with the vocabulary needed to discuss their career options with family members and friends, a major win in fostering career discussions.

Inspiration for App Redesign
The success of WoW led to a redesign of Quest Alliance’s learning app, incorporating a stronger focus on personalised career-based learning.
